Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to know the password?
Yes. This tool removes password protection from a PDF you can already open — it decrypts using the password you provide, then saves an unprotected copy. It can't bypass or crack a password you don't know; that's what encryption is for.
Is the output text selectable?
No. Each page is rendered as a high-resolution image, similar to a scan, so the unlocked PDF isn't text-selectable, searchable, or copyable. This is a necessary trade-off for a tool that decrypts and rebuilds the file entirely in your browser.
Is my password or PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. Decryption and rebuilding both happen locally in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing — including the password you type — is ever sent to a server.
What if my PDF isn't actually password-protected?
The tool detects this automatically and tells you rather than asking for a password you don't need.
What if I enter the wrong password?
You'll see an inline error and can try again — there's no limit on attempts, but remember this only works if you already know the correct password.
